What Does “Unlocked” Mean?
When you purchase a phone from a carrier such as T-Mobile, AT&T, or Verizon, often times (not always) they will “lock” a phone while you are still paying for it under contract or monthly installments. Once your phone is paid off, and / or your contract ends, then you can unlock your phone and use it on other compatible networks like SurgePhone.
How Do I Know If My Phone Is Unlocked?
If you are unsure if your phone is unlocked or blacklisted, please check with the original carrier that the phone was purchased from. They should be able use the phone’s IMEI number and confirm if it is available for use on other networks.
If you purchased your phone through Amazon, eBay, or elsewhere and it specifically mentioned being “unlocked,” then you should be able to use it on any other compatible network.
Can I Unlock My Phone If It Isn’t Already?
Absolutely. You can contact the original carrier for unlocking instructions, or, alternatively, there are several websites who offer free and / or inexpensive unlocking services. While we can’t officially endorse any specific ones, simply Google “unlock my phone” and you will find several popular services who can provide instructions and unlock codes.
If you have a phone repair service locally, they can also likely assist you with unlocking services.
